Elon Musk, who co-founded firm behind ChatGPT, Warns of AI Risks: Why We Should All Be Worried

Elon Musk, the tech billionaire and co-founder of the AI firm behind ChatGPT, has warned that artificial intelligence is one of the biggest risks to the future of civilization. Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk stated that while AI has great promise and capability, it also poses great danger. Musk, who is also the founder of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter, emphasized that AI needs to be regulated for safety, as it is a bigger risk to society than cars, planes, or medicine.

Musk's OpenAI developed ChatGPT, an advanced form of AI powered by the GPT-3 language model. ChatGPT is programmed to understand human language and generate responses based on large amounts of data. It has demonstrated just how advanced AI has become, according to Musk. However, unlike cars, airplanes, and medicine, AI currently does not have any regulations to keep its development under control.

Musk has been warning of the dangers of unfettered AI development for years, having once claimed that artificial intelligence is "far more dangerous" than nuclear warheads. With the rise of ChatGPT, which threatens to upend the job market with more advanced, human-like writing, his words carry more weight than ever before.

Musk left OpenAI's board in 2018 and no longer holds a stake in the company, which was initially created as an open-source nonprofit but is now closed-source and for-profit. He established OpenAI partly because "Google was not paying enough attention to AI safety," he said.

ChatGPT has caused a heated battle between Google and Microsoft. Google responded with its own rival tool, called Bard, as investors question whether ChatGPT will pose a threat to Google's dominance in web search. However, as Musk has warned, the real threat posed by AI goes far beyond a mere market share battle. It is a danger that must be regulated to ensure the safety of society.
